Ensol AS is collaborating with the Physics and Astronomy department in the University of Leicester to produce a thin film solar cell material that can even be coated on windows with little light degregation to produce power much more efficiently than has been possible before.
Professor Chris Binns,Professor of Nanotechnology at the University of Leicester said that this collaberation between the university and Ensol AS presents a great oportunity for developing another method for capturing the power of the sun.
“The material has been designed by EnSol AS and is based on nanoparticles that can be synthesised in Leicester for prototypes.” These new cells are based on an entirely new operating principle to silicon solar cells .The highest efficiency of silicon solar cell is around 23% whilst the new cells efficiency is much higher.
